By virtue of you reading this, you’ve already discovered that I’ve started a blog!
“Start a blog” was number one on my list and given that I’m blogging about said list… well, it follows that this blog post is about starting a blog. And also an ability to get my point across in a proficient and concise manner. But I digress…
Originally, I thought I’d start a blog using a free platform like wordpress.com or blogger by google. That was before I googled, “How to start a blog.” The overwhelming consensus was that if you’re starting a blog (and you’re at least somewhat serious about it) the best course of action is to buy your own domain and pay for web hosting and use WordPress. I also figured that I’d be more inclined to stick with something that I’d created from scratch and actually put a monetary investment into. So that’s what I did and here we are.
Let me say… I was absolutely OVERWHELMED by the plethora of choice that was available when I googled terms like, “Buy domain name” and “Web hosting”. There are about a trillion million companies vying for your business! You can either buy your domain and hosting separately and from different companies or combined in a kind of package.
I’ll be completely honest: after a lot of research I finally just went with the cheapest option. Will it suit me? I have no freaking idea. I don’t know how much traffic will come here: my best guess is that for a very long time the only regular readers that I will attract will be my mother and my sister (Shout out: Hi mum! Hi Katelyn!). I figure I can always upgrade my package one day if the need ever arises. At the end of the day the purpose of this blog is to help me get off my butt rather than to create a passive income. And with that in mind, I chose godaddy.com and their $1/month web hosting with a free domain registration and instant WordPress setup
So for $12 total I get this lovely website for the next year… And perhaps, with any luck, for many years to come.
